Since 1974, MOGA has protected and enhanced the Montana outfitting industry in all its forms.
Legacy, stewardship, and public service
MOGA represents more than 500 members statewide — outfitters, guides, and businesses whose operations span the state, from backcountry wilderness experiences to river float trips, wingshooting, and big-game hunts.
Montana's outfitters come from a long family legacy, passing down their knowledge and passion for the wilderness through generations. As stewards of the land, they are among the most committed conservationists in the state.
MOGA serves all outfitters and guides, regardless of membership affiliation, to support the entire industry.

From a district ranger's idea to a statewide association
- 1949
Horace Godfrey, a Forest Service district ranger in Seeley Lake, established the Western Montana Outfitters and Guides Association to improve professionalism and cooperation among the region's outfitters.
- 1974
By the early '70s several outfitter organizations existed across Montana. In May 1974, their leaders agreed to merge into a single statewide body, adopting the name the Montana Outfitters & Guides Association.

MOGA represents more than 500 members statewide, advocating at the Montana Legislature and with federal land agencies, and upholding the highest professional standards in the industry.
