Vince Van Meter has been a professional guide for 38 years. His experience guiding includes waters as far east as the Bighorn, as far west as the Clark Fork, as far north as the Kootenai, as far south as the Beaverhead, and pretty much the rest of it in between. In other words, he has a lot of stories to tell!
Vince’s outfitting business, Fat Hat Drifters Inc., focuses primarily on the Missouri River from Holter dam to Cascade, MT as well as the infamous Land of Giants (LOG) on the upper Missouri below Hauser dam. Fat Hat Drifters also offers day trips in Southwest Montana to private spring creeks, small streams, and a number of lakes. For those who don’t fish, scenic boat rides and bird watching trips are also available.
At Fat Hat Drifters, we offer an experience by providing experience. Our group of guides are generational Montanans who have spent their lives in Montana’s vast outdoors. We know about Montana’s history, about the geology, about the ecology, about the flora and fauna that surrounds us, and we are very proud of where we live and what we do. And it shows. There is never a problem getting us to brag a little about how wonderful Montana is. It’s the getting us to stop that’s the hard part!
For some folks, learning a bit about Montana and sharing a few stories may be more than enough reason to come take a ride down the river with us. But just in case it’s not, we happen to know a little bit about fly fishing as well.
All of Fat Hat Drifter’s guides are expert oarsmen and women, expert instructors (they can even teach pros a thing or two!), expert knot untiers, expert counselors, have the patience of a saint, the will of a grizzly to catch fish, and the inherent gift for gab that we Montanans are simply lucky enough to be born with.
So, come join us. An experience awaits you!
